“It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince
One cool morning in Winter 2015, Alena strolled into a historic spot in downtown Asheville, casually checking out studio spaces in various parts of town. So when she walked into this charming brick and mortar space in the heart of downtown, it was mostly just for fun. Little did she expect to totally fall in love upon walking in. That rare full body yes was experienced, when it was if all at once she saw the place lit up with not only art by her, but all her favorite artist friends as well. Within five minutes of speaking to the owner and with much enthusiasm she declared “I’ll take it”, and later went on to land the space knowing at least a handful were actively vying for it.
Rosewater is lovingly run by Alena and Jane Hennessy (Alena’s mother). Alena has been a full time artist now for over 10 years, has authored three books on art, painting, and creativity, has been featured in The Washington Post, Dwell, Spirituality & Health magazine, among others, and offers select soul painting retreats and art workshops online. Jane Hennessy is a gifted artist finally coming into her own, after retiring from corporate America, and now offers glorious and soft realist paintings which sell out quickly at the gallery. Twenty some local, national, and international artists/crafters are also represented — in fact, after 10 years in the business, each artist and maker carried is one of Alena’s personal favorites. Rosewater carries not only paintings, but everything from hand-crafted raw brass jewelry to tea-stained journals from Poland to 70’s ironic tees. If there is a gift you would like to give to someone special, rest assured you can find it at Rosewater. Select workshops will also be given from time to time.
